49. Helping People to Relax

Here are some friendly phrases and questions you can use to help patients to relax.
Please read them carefully and think about what they mean.

Meeting a new patient
“Hello, I’m Rin Nakamura. How can I help you?”
“Do you have a letter from your doctor?”
“Do you have Japanese health insurance?”

“I’ll ask you some questions then I’ll make your patient card.”
“Here is your patient card. Please call the telephone number on the card if you feel unwell.”

Asking people to wait
“Please take a seat. The doctor will see you soon.”
“Wait a moment please.”
“One moment please.”
“Please wait over there. I’ll call you when the doctor can see you.”
“I’m sorry, our clinic is closed on Sundays. Can I make you an appointment for another day?”

Offering to help someone
“How can I help you?”
“Can I get you a cup of water?”
“Can I get you anything?”
“Do you need anything?”
