Food and Drink

Asking about meals
Q. “What’s your favourite meal of the day?”
A. “I like lunch best because there are lots of great restaurants near my office.”

Q. “What do you usually have for breakfast?”
A. “I usually have toast and an egg, with a cup of coffee.”

Breakfast
“For breakfast I like to have fruit, yoghurt and a glass of milk.”

“I don’t usually have time for breakfast but I have a cup of coffee when I get to the office.”

“On Sundays I have breakfast with my family. My husband makes hotcakes.”

Lunch
“I take a packed lunch to work. I usually have rice, pickles, steamed fish and some fruit.”

“On most days I have lunch at a cafe or restaurant near my work.”

“I eat lunch at my desk. I usually have rice balls but sometimes I buy a sandwich from the convenience store in my office building.”

Dinner
“I live by myself so I usually cook lots of food at the weekends then keep it in the refrigerator or freezer. It’s convenient because when I get home from work I can just heat something up in the microwave.”

“I’m working the late-shift this week so I eat at the hospital. There’s a staff cafeteria which is very cheap and the food is lovely.”

“I love cooking. I try to cook something special once or twice a week.”

Offering a drink
Q. “Would you like something to drink?”
A. “Yes, I’d love a cup of tea or coffee if you’re having one.”

Q. “How do you take your coffee?”
A. “With milk but no sugar.”

Q. “How do you like your tea?”
A. “Milk and one sugar, please.”
